A Special Presidential Task Force for the protection of children took place on Thursday under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Task Force was established based on a promise made by President Sirisena, the President's Media Division said. At this event, President Sirisena called for better co-ordination among state institutions to ensure strengthening of child protection in the country.

Measures that have been taken to resolve issues surrounding child protection were also discussed at the occasion, the PMD said. Attention was also drawn towards the need to restructure the legal framework in order to promote child nutrition and health, it further stated.
