Twenty one police personnel attached to the Embilipitiya Police Station were transferred pending an inquiry in to the death of a youth in Embilipitiya, Police said.

The youth who was admitted to hospital following a clash with police last Sunday succumbed to his injuries today.

Angry residents of Embilipitiya launched a hartal, blocking the roads and burning tires in the town centre this morning. They demanded the arrest of the Ambilipitiya ASP who allegedly threatened some people including a pregnant woman during the said incident on Sunday.

However, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara recently defended the action of police. The police insist that the youth who died jumped off the building where the clash took place.
