The Principal of Kingswood College, Kandy, was interdicted for collecting money illegally, violating four circulars, the Ministry of Education said today.
Accordingly, an audit has uncovered that the principal had collected a sum of Rs 3,625,000 in violation of circulars issued by the ministry.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the principal had collected the money from parents for enrolling Grade 1 students for the year 2016. He had explained to the parents that the money was required for the construction of a new building at the school. However, the Education Ministry had already agreed to transfer Rs 70 million for the said project.
According to the ministry, a sum of Rs 50,000 each had been collected from 65 individuals. Furthermore, another was asked to pay Rs 75,000 and two others had made payments of Rs 150,000 each.
