Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris today allowed the CID to seek foreign expertise to analyze the CCTV records of the vehicle of former Havelock's Captain Wasim Thajudeen.

The University of Colombo School of Computing filed its report on the CCTV footage with Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris on January 5. The UCSC said that it was unable to identify the human figures or the license plate in the vehicle. It recommended the footage be sent to a foreign laboratory for further analysis.

The Additional Magistrate directed the CID to send the footage to one or two of the recommended laboratories - including the FBI laboratory - as required.

Meanwhile, the CID also informed the court of several other investigations pertaining to the case. Accordingly the investigation on the contradictory post mortem reports is still being conducted, the CID said.

Furthermore, several statements are yet to be recorded on the investigation regarding the conduct of several senior police officers on Thajudeen's death, CID also said.

Former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen was found dead in his car near Shalika Grounds, Narahenpita, in May 2012. The investigation on his death was restarted following the defeat of the Rajapaksa government last year.
