In an unprecedented move, President Maithripala Sirisena visited a studio at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation to attend a live a radio discussion.
This is the first time in the recent history that a Head of State visited the SLBC premises to participate in a discussion. In the recent past, almost all top brass members of the former government, including certain influential ministry secretaries, spoke to radio programmes from their offices or houses.
A casually dressed President arrived at the SLBC premises around 7 am this morning to attend the "Subharathi" morning discussion to talk about his first year in office.
Apart from the producer of the show and a handful of SLBC senior officials, no one was aware of President Sirisena's visit to the state owned broadcasting corporation.
During the discussion, the President said under his presidency the country has made immense progress on democracy, human rights, accountability and reconciliation fronts.
