Lawyer Nissanka Nanayakkara is to be appointed as the Chairman of the People's Bank.

Nanayakkara is a prominent member of the United National Party and one of its legal consultants.

Current Chairman of the bank, Hemasiri Fernando will continue to function as the Chairman of the state run ITN.

Before Nanayakkara's appointment, Fernando held both positions simultaneously.
