President Mahinda Rajapaksa, today, promised to look into the age barrier imposed by Law College on its examinations and offer a fair solution.
Engaging in a Q & A session on Twitter this morning, the President said, "We are focusing our attention on this matter. We expect to give you a solution soon."
Asian Mirror two days ago reported that Sri Lanka Law College was to bar law graduates above 30 from sitting for Law College exams - disallowing them from pursuing their careers as lawyers. It was widely alleged that the decision would amount to a violation of right to education - a fundamental right ensured by the constitution of Sri Lanka.
The Council of Legal Education, which overlooks the legal education in Sri Lanka, had proposed this law and a special meeting in this regard was held with the participation of Chief Justice Mohan Peiris.
