The price of cigarettes and liquor was increased with effect from today, the Finance Ministery said.

Accordingly, the price of a cigarette was increased by Rs. 3 to Rs. 33. A litre of beer (alcohol below 5%) was increased by Rs 40 and a litre of beer (alcohol over 5%) was increased by Rs. 60.

Furthermore, the price of hard liquor was also increased. Accordingly, a proof litre of Molasses has been increased by Rs. 110 and a litre of foreign type proof was increased by Rs 160.

This announcement came coinciding with World Temperance Day, which is celebrated today.
