Editor of Lakbima daily newspaper and veteran journalist Saman Wagaarachchi is to resign from his position due to "political reasons", Asian Mirror reliably learns.
He has already been relieved from duties and the paper is now being overlooked by Anura Horatues, sources from the newspaper said.
Recently, Wagaarachchi's name was mentioned in connection with two controversies. Firstly, he was questioned by the CID over a photo caption that was damaging to the wife of a senior-most state official in the country. Secondly, it was reported that Hambanthota District Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa and his sister, Dulanjalee Preamadasa, had met Thilanga Sumathipala, proprietor of the newspaper, seeking immediate removal of the Editor.
Lakbima, under Wagaarachchi's watch, was strongly critical of Premadasa and his "political duplicity".
When contacted by 'Asian Mirror', Wagaarachchi said he would soon make a public announcement on the resignation.
