Giving evidence in connection with the murder of British national Khuram Shaikh, Tangalle Nature Resort Manageress Tharanga Pieris today (22) told Colombo High Court Judge Rohini Walgama that the Tangalle police had distortedly recorded her first statement.

 She said she made her statement to the police on December 25, 2011.

She further alleged that her initial statement recorded by Tangalle police was not read over to her, though she put her signature under the statement.

When she was cross-examined by the defence counsel appeared for the first accused, Pieris alleged that police had written an “untold statement” regarding a firearm that was allegedly used for the murder.

In the statement,  Police has fist referred to the weapon as a T-56 and later as a pistol. She affirmed in Court that she did not make any reference to the type of the weapon as she was not aware of types of firearms. She said she just identified it as a gun.

Meanwhile, she further alleged that her statement regarding the Russian the girlfriend of the victim was not included in the statement recorded by police.
