New York, the most populated city in the US, saw its second-highest snowfall over the weekend since records began in 1869, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

As five states saw snowfall of 3ft (91cm) or more, AP news agency reported the deaths of at least 28 people.

A cow in Queens, New York, created considerable chaos after it escaped and ran across the Jamaica Avenue in the city on Thursday. The city police was quick to respond and recapture the 'fugitive' cow which made the "dairying" escape.

Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong is one of the most active leaders on social media. He often updates his Facebook Page and Twitter handle, sometimes with photographs taken by him. This was one such photograph taken during a visit to a famous perfumes shop at Kandahar Street, Singapore. The Prime Minister is seen with a red shirt.

Suspected Islamic militants launched an attack at a hotel in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, taking many hostages. Foreign media reported that around 30 hostages had been rescued while fighting was still continuing. Around 20 people were reported dead. 

Hindus around the country celebrate Thai Pongal today. The main Thai Pongal event in the hill country was held at Sri Manikkyapilleyar Kovil in Hatton.
