The Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) appointed to investigate the Treasury bond issue said today that any attempt to hack into former Perpetual Treasuries Director Arjun Aloysius’ phone would be considered a punishable offence.
While making the statement, the commission prohibited Aloysius and his agents from attempting to log into his apple account, which is currently being investigated by the CID.
The remarks come after Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Yasantha Kodagoda informed the PCoI yesterday that an attempt had been made to access Aloysius’ Apple account within the preceding 48 hours.
Communication devices used by Aloysius are in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Police attached to the PCoI for investigation and ASG Kodagoda yesterday submitted 8, 600 pages of data extricated from Aloysius’ phone.
Aloysius is being investigated for unprecedented gains made by Perpetual Treasuries at a bond auction at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka while his father-in-law Arjuna Mahendran was at the helm.
CID Launches Investigations Into Aloysius' Media Network: Probe On If Bond Money Was Used To Set Up Media Company
August 03, 2017The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has now launched investigations into the functioning of the Integrated Media Network, owned by Perpetual Holdings belonging to controversial businessman Arjuna Aloysius.
The Integrated Media Network is the publisher of Janayugaya daily and Sunday newspapers.
The investigation is being done in connection with the Presidential Commission’s inquiry into the Treasury Bonds issue.
Highly placed Police sources said the CID had obtained financial and account details and accounts reports of the media company, started by Aloysius, last year.
The investigations have been commenced to ascertain how the money of the Perpetuual Treasuries, the company involved in the bond controversy, was used to start the media business.
The findings of the CID investigations, they said, would be presented before the three member Presidential Commission inquiring into the Bond issue.

August 02, 2017In a startling revelation, the Attorney General’s Department today informed the Bond Commission that it had extracted 8600 pages of data from Perpetual Treasuries head Arjuna Aloysius’ mobile phone.
The AG’s Department said several text messages in the database refers to two individuals called ‘RK’ and ‘PM’
RK, incidentally, are also the initials of Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake.
According to the AG's Department's lawyers, some of the text messages indicated that Aloysius had funded the Sunday Leader newspaper, in the recent past.
When questioned about the development, Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake, who appeared before the Commission this morning said, he had no knowledge of Aloysius’ text messages referring to ‘Ravi K’
In his statement, the Foreign Minister told the Bond Commission that he knew Arjuna Aloyius as a family friend for long time, but they had no business or official connection
Aloysius Attempted To Delete Back-Up Data Using Wife’s Phone
August 01, 2017Former Perpetual Treasuries Director Arjun Aloysius has attempted to delete backup data on his Apple account using his wife’s phone, the Attorney General’s Department told the Bond Commission today.
Aloysius is being investigated into links with Perpetual Treasuries, which made unprecedented gains at the issuance of Treasury bonds in 2016, while his father-in-law Arjuna Mahendran was at the helm of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
On July 24 the PCoI investigating the Treasury Bond issue asked former Perpetual Treasuries director Arjun Aloysius to hand over all communications devices used during the period 2015 – 2016 to the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) team attached to the PCoI.
Aloysius complied but the Attorney General’s Department informed the PCoI the devices were those used only for a period of six months. Aloysius had also claimed to have forgotten the username and password combination to unlock his Apple account.
Yesterday, lawyers appearing for Aloysius told the PCoI their client wanted permission to purchase a new SIM card as he was inconvenienced by the absence of one. His request was rejected and he was asked to remember his password, or face the implications.
The Presidential Commission appointed to investigate the Treasury Bond issue consists of Supreme Court Judges Kankanithanthri T. Chitrasiri, Prasanna Sujeewa Jayawardena and former Deputy Auditor General Kandasamy Velupillai.

The comments came on the heels of lawyers appearing on behalf of Aloysius asking the Presidential Commission to allow Aloysius to get a new SIM card for his phone.
The lawyers told the Presidential Commission that their client was inconvenienced by the lack of a phone.
The Presidential Commission had however refused to grant Aloysius permission to get a new SIM card, saying instead that he should remember his password.
