'No Disagreement If MR Returns To Politics Through UPFA': Premajayantha

United People’s Freedom Alliance stated that it has no disagreement if former president Mahinda Rajapaksa enters politics through the alliance.

Releasing a media statement on Saturday (21), UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha stated that all constituent parties in the alliance will collectively work towards ensure the victory of the UPFA in the upcoming general election.

However, the statement did not mention anything on a UPFA candidate for the post of Prime Minister.

Rajapaksa recently told media that he is always a SLFP-er (‘Srilankaakaarayek’) and if he takes a decision it will be within the UPFA. He also pledged that he will not let SLFP break apart when senior leaders of the party met him recently.

In the media statement, Premajayantha also paid attention to the constitutional amendments and electoral reforms and said that the UPFA was committed to amend the executive presidency by limiting its arbitrary powers.

Meanwhile, he reiterated the position on electoral reforms agreed by the UPFA party leaders on March 14. Thereby Premajayantha said that the UPFA will take the Dinesh Gunawardena Committee Report as the basis for electoral reform.
