One Sri Lankan fisherman has been killed while another is reported missing after a multi-day fishing vessel collided with a ship off Valaichchenai, Trincomalee. The accident occurred approximately 47 kilometers offshore.
The five fishermen had embarked on their fishing trip from Valaichchenai fisheries harbor on May 12. Preliminary police investigations suggest that heavy rainfall in the area contributed to the collision.
The deceased has been identified as a 47-year-old from Nintavur, who drowned in the incident. The missing fisherman is a 60-year-old resident of Oluvil. One injured fisherman has been hospitalized at Trincomalee Hospital, while the other two crew members are reported to be safe.
Valaichchenai Police are continuing their investigations.
