Anura Kumara Dissanayake, presidential candidate for the National People's Power (NPP), has called for a sweeping overhaul of Sri Lanka’s parliamentary system.
Anura criticized the current political landscape, highlighting the need for principled politics and significant reforms.
Anura denounced "policyless politics" and the sale of political influence, vowing that over 150 current parliamentarians engaged in unethical behavior will not be re-elected. He questioned the appropriateness of allowing MPs involved in violence or financial scandals, such as the central bank bond scam, to continue in office.
Promising a clean-up of the parliament, he outlined his vision for a reformed cabinet, with a maximum of 25 members. His proposed measures include eliminating MPs' pensions, government vehicle permits, and housing benefits, as well as cutting down on government cars for ministers. He also called for the abolition of the president's pension.
He criticized Sajith Premadasa for adopting similar policies but falling short on specific reforms, underscoring the need to prioritize public welfare over personal privileges and prevent the misuse of state resources.
