During a meeting with Willorawatta residents in Moratuwa, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced his plans to introduce a pension and social security scheme for informal sector workers, including carpenters. This initiative is part of the broader "Puluwan Sri Lanka" program.
He also addressed concerns about compensation for fishermen affected by the Express Pearl marine pollution, confirming that partial payments have been distributed and the remainder will be disbursed soon. He further outlined plans to establish an anti-narcotics command center to combat drug issues and improve laws against traffickers.
The President highlighted ongoing and future economic reforms, including the "Aswesuma" program for low-income individuals, job creation targets, and efforts to boost the export-oriented economy. He also criticized opposition policies on Free Trade Agreements and export economy strategies, asserting that his government is committed to economic transformation and anti-corruption measures.
