Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, the National Democratic Front’s presidential candidate, has raised concerns over financial transparency and ethical practices in the current election cycle. Highlighting discrepancies between candidates' reported incomes and their accumulated assets, he has criticized the Bribery Commission's ongoing investigations into potential legal violations.
Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe pointed out that some candidates with reported monthly earnings of Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 400,000 have seen their assets multiply significantly, leading to formal complaints and possible legal repercussions. He also condemned the use of 'dummy candidates' and the distribution of food items like biryani during the election, labeling these acts as bribes. Additionally, he criticized candidates offering financial incentives to government employees and pensioners, likening such promises to bribery and calling for stricter laws to prevent these practices.
