President and independent presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe has launched a sharp critique of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, claiming that Sajith Premadasa’s current political strategy not only distances him from the United National Party (UNP) but also strengthens rival Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s position.

In a statement, Wickremesinghe highlighted that historical figures like J.R. Jayewardene and former Presidents Bandaranaike and Rajapaksa had demonstrated the importance of maintaining strong party leadership and control. He argued that Sajith’s frequent parliamentary presence has inadvertently elevated Anura’s profile, making him a formidable opponent.

President warned that votes for Sajith could effectively bolster AKD’s chances, urging UNP members to shift their support to the "Gas Cylinder" symbol in the upcoming election on September 21st.
