Puttalam District MP Arundika Fernando announced he will serve as an independent member of Parliament, effective today, September 4. Arundika Fernando, who is also the State Minister of Urban Development and Housing, made the declaration during today’s Parliamentary session.

He called for a unified effort between Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and President Ranil Wickremesinghe to avert what he described as a potential national crisis. He drew parallels to past uprisings in 1971 and 1989, noting the devastating impact on youth and expressing concern over current threats to national stability.
