President Proposes New Agency to Combat Drug-Related Crime

President Ranil Wickremesinghe  proposed the creation of a new agency under the Anti-Narcotics Act to address the escalating threat posed by underworld figures exploiting modern technology. Speaking at the opening of the Special Operations Command of the Police Special Task Force in Sri Jayawardanepura, Wickremesinghe highlighted the need for specific laws to curb these activities.

The proposed agency would consolidate police, military, and civil efforts into a single entity with focused powers to combat drug-related crimes.

The new command center will serve as the primary hub for managing public order and specialized operations, including responses to terrorist attacks, violent extremism, and hostage situations.
