The Grama Niladari trade unions have announced plans to initiate an indefinite strike starting Monday, July 8, should their demands remain unmet by Friday, July 5.
Currently engaged in a work-to-rule campaign, the unions are protesting the lack of progress in establishing a service constitution and increasing allowances.

Despite several discussions, the Ministry has yet to provide a decision, according to Jagath Chandralal, General Secretary of the All Island Freedom Grama Niladari Union.
