Parliament's Committee on Public Finance, chaired by State Minister of Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna, has initiated an investigation into alleged irregularities at the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority (WPRPTA). The probe focuses on the creation of three new Deputy General Manager (DGM) positions for Control, Operations, and Finance.
Concerns have arisen over the appointment of two acting DGMs, who reportedly received Rs. 3.3 million in allowances. The committee suspects that fake certificates were used to qualify for these positions. Additionally, the investigation will examine how the WPRPTA issues road permits and allocates bus routes, particularly scrutinizing claims that some buses have been granted preferential access to the expressway.
State Minister Alagiyawanna highlighted the importance of this investigation to ensure transparency and accountability within the WPRPTA.
