Over 44,000 Vehicles Released to Local Market

State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has disclosed that over 44,000 vehicles have been released to the local market despite an ongoing ban on vehicle imports in Sri Lanka. Of the 44,430 vehicles released, 38,144 are motorcycles and 6,286 are cars.

The vehicles were made available during the period when import restrictions were enforced. This information was revealed during a recent discussion between the State Minister and representatives of local vehicle manufacturing companies at the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting also addressed the possibility of lifting the import ban, with local manufacturers urging the government to consider the impact on domestic vehicle assembly businesses.
