Two Sri Lankans Arrested in India Over Illegal Passport Racket

Indian Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials have arrested two Sri Lankans and an Indian agent in connection with a major illegal passport racket. The arrests are part of an ongoing probe into Sri Lankan refugees obtaining Indian passports illegally.

The CID identified the arrested Sri Lankans as Varuniya Thirunavukkarasu, 30, and Sanjika J, 29. They were detained in Chennai for using fake documents to secure Indian passports. An Indian mediator, Priya Dharmalingam, 41, was also apprehended for facilitating the illegal process for approximately 21 Sri Lankans.

These documents were used to submit over 125 passport applications at various Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) in Telangana. The CID has arrested 26 individuals so far, including passport agents, police officials, and another Sri Lankan national.

During the investigation, authorities seized 108 Indian passports, 33 mobile phones, five laptops, five CPUs, three printers, 11 pen drives, a scanner, and 82 rubber stamps. Special CID teams continue to investigate the case, aiming to gather more evidence and arrest additional suspects.
