Starlink Internet Service Now Available for Pre-Order in Sri Lanka

Elon Musk's Starlink internet service is now available for pre-order in Sri Lanka, with the public able to reserve their spot with a fully refundable USD 9 deposit. The service is expected to launch in the country later this year, pending regulatory approval.

Dinouk Colombage, Director of International Affairs for President Ranil Wickremesinghe, announced on "X" (Twitter) that Starlink's availability follows recent discussions between President Wickremesinghe and Elon Musk. Despite this announcement, some users noted that pre-orders were possible even before these discussions.

President Wickremesinghe commented on the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve Wi-Fi connectivity in rural areas and its alignment with Sri Lanka's renewable energy goals. The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission is currently evaluating the Starlink network, with most preliminary assessments completed. Final approval is awaited from the Ministry of Defence.
