President Ranil Wickremesinghe inaugurated new Cardiology and Nephrology Units at the Vavuniya District General Hospital yesterday. The state-of-the-art facility, funded by the Dutch government with an investment of Rs. 3,329 million, aims to enhance healthcare services in the Northern Province.

The three-story building offers a range of cardiology services, including a Cardiology unit, Cath Lab, Cardiothoracic Theatre, Cardiac ICU, and monitoring units. The nephrology services feature a Dialysis Unit, Scan Room, and Procedures Room, alongside a dedicated surgery unit for kidney patients.

President Wickremesinghe, who initiated the project during his tenure as Prime Minister in 2019,emphasized the importance of these facilities in improving local healthcare and supporting medical tourism. He noted the strategic importance of the hospital's location along the A9 road, enhancing access to advanced medical services across the region.

Highlighting further plans, the President announced upcoming developments for the Mannar district hospital and acknowledged the Netherlands’ ongoing support in strengthening the Northern Province's health infrastructure.
