Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and seven others have been further remanded until June 3rd by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.
They face charges related to the import of substandard human immunoglobulin vials.
The arrest followed pressure from civil society activists and health sector trade unionists. Rambukwella was arrested on February 2nd after nearly 10 hours of questioning by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Prior arrests had been made, but one suspect was later released on bail. Those remaining in custody include the former Health Secretary, officials from the Medical Supplies Division, and the owner of the company involved in supplying the substandard vials.
