Prison Officers Launch ‘Sick Leave’ Trade Union Action

The All-Ceylon Prison Officers’ Union has commenced a trade union action by reporting 'sick leave' starting today and continuing until May 22.
This action involves officers from the Prisons Department across the island and is driven by demands for a wage increase of Rs. 25,000.

The protest adds to ongoing labor unrest, with university non-academic staff also continuing their strike.
According to T. A. D. Suranjeeva, General Secretary of the Peradeniya University’s Trade Union Federation, this strike has significantly disrupted the entire university system.
