Former Army Chief Mahesh Senanayake Joins SJB

 

Colombo, Sri Lanka - General (Retd) Mahesh Senanayake, the former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, has officially joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party. He has been appointed as the leader of the 'Samagi Ranawiru Balawegaya,' an affiliate organization within the SJB.

Senanayake, who served as the 22nd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army for over two years and previously as the Chief of Staff, was promoted to the rank of General upon his retirement in August 2019 by then-President Maithripala Sirisena. In the 2019 Presidential Election, he ran as a candidate for the National People’s Party (NPP), finishing fourth.
