The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has uncovered a concerning revelation regarding the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Officials disclosed that approximately 130 engineers have departed from the service. Mr. Palitha Perera, the Deputy Managing Director of CEB, highlighted a staggering total of 330 engineer vacancies.
These shortages stem from a failure to replace retiring staff, exacerbating the operational strain on the organization. COPE's scrutiny unveiled significant financial losses incurred by the CEB due to emergency power procurements, underscoring the urgent need for strategic planning and resource management within the energy sector.
