Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has called for a delay in the government's privatization efforts until after the upcoming Presidential election.
Rajapaksa, highlighting the transitional nature of the current government, believes decisions regarding state-owned assets should be deferred to the incoming administration to align with the electorate's mandate.
His proposal emerges amidst growing public dissatisfaction with the swift sale of state-owned assets. "I wish to propose that all moves to sell off state-owned assets or enterprises be postponed until a new government is formed after the next Presidential election.
The new government will then be able to deal with state-owned properties and enterprises in accordance with the mandate they obtain at the election," Rajapaksa stated in a release.
