Anuradhapura District Member of Parliament (MP) Uddika Premaratne, representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has tendered his resignation to the Speaker in Parliament today.
Premaratne cited his inability to fulfil the aspirations of the people as a youth leader elected to parliament as the reason for his decision.
In a statement to the media, Premaratne expressed regret over not being able to fully engage in addressing the needs and concerns of the public during his tenure as an MP. "I didn't get a chance as a youth leader elected to the parliament to work fulfilling people's aspects," he said, emphasizing his commitment to serving the interests of his constituents.
Premaratne's resignation comes as a surprise to many, given his prominent role within the SLPP and his status as an independent MP in Parliament.
