In the wake of a comprehensive study revealing rare but potential links between certain Covid-19 vaccines and disorders affecting the heart, brain, and blood, Sri Lankan health professionals are calling for increased vigilance.

The study, orchestrated by the Global Vaccine Data Network under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO), highlighted concerns with vaccines produced by Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca.

The research spanned 99 million vaccinated individuals across eight nations, marking it as the most extensive investigation into Covid vaccines thus far.

Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, a spokesperson for the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA), emphasized the importance of Sri Lanka adopting a cautious stance in light of these findings. Dr. Wijesinghe advocated for continuous monitoring of vaccine-related side effects within the country. He noted, however, that the study's outcomes might not directly apply to the Sri Lankan population due to differences in genetic and environmental factors.
