Piyum Hasthika, known by his alias "Piyuma," was repatriated from Dubai in the early hours of Thursday, February 15th. Public Security Ministry officials confirmed that a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) successfully brought Piyuma back to the island.

Piyuma is believed to be a key associate of the notorious underworld figure Salindu Malshika, alias "Kudu Salindu," who is currently in CID custody. This extradition marks another victory for Sri Lankan authorities in dismantling criminal networks operating within and outside the country.

This development follows the repatriation of another infamous figure, Nadun Chinthaka, alias "Harak Kata," along with Salindu Malshitha Gunaratne, alias "Kudu Salindu," from Madagascar in March 2023.

The CID, in a daring operation, successfully brought the duo back to Sri Lanka, where they were detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for 90 days.
