Sports Minister Harin Fernando convened an emergency meeting with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials yesterday, demanding a comprehensive plan for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the remainder of 2024.
The meeting, held in response to the team's performances in 2023, including disappointing losses in the ODI and Under-19 World Cups, scrutinized existing strategies and laid out stringent requirements for the future.
Sources within the meeting revealed that Minister Fernando expressed profound dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs within Sri Lankan cricket, emphasizing the urgent need for a well-structured and executable plan.
He particularly stressed the significance of player development, meticulous team selection, and an overarching strategic approach to the game.
SLC officials have acknowledged the seriousness of the directive and have pledged to work diligently to formulate a robust plan that meets the minister's expectations.
