Substandard Drugs Scandal: CID to Investigate All Registered Pharma Companies Amidst Allegations

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been tasked with investigating all registered pharmaceutical companies in Sri Lanka in response to the recent substandard medicine scandal. The decision was made following a high-level meeting chaired by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the CID, highlighting authorities' determination to address concerns regarding pharmaceutical practices.


Particular focus will be on companies that supplied drugs to the entity involved in the scandal, with efforts intensified to unravel the complexities of the Human Immunoglobulin debacle. Collaboration with the Attorney General aims to ensure CID to Investigate Registered Pharmaceutical Companieslegal compliance and procedural integrity throughout the investigation.

Several key figures, including former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and former Ministry Secretary Janaka Sri Chandragupta, are in custody in connection with the scandal, indicating authorities' commitment to accountability.
