Government of India to offer multimodal oil pipeline to Sri Lanka

Government of India is Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Ltd. through a proposed multi-modal oil pipeline connecting India Nagapattinam and Sri Lanka Trincomalee oil tank farm and Colombo.

The proposal was taken at a meeting between Energy and Power Minister Kanchana Wijesekera and IndianOil Company on Wednesday (February 2) as part of the India Energy Week.

The meeting was attended by the presidents of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), ROK Lanka, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka (PDASL). The participants discussed the technical studies, demand market analysis, financial analysis and business models that will be carried out to determine the mechanism of this project.

Apart from the pipeline proposal, the meeting focused on investments and project expansion in Trincomalee oil tank farm, Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) and Lanka IOC retail joint venture.

India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas invited Minister Wijesekera to attend the 2nd edition of India Energy Week in Goa. In a bilateral meeting with India and Oil and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Wijesekera discussed ongoing energy projects with the Indian government, India's investments and energy policy and future developments.

As part of his visit to India, Minister Wijesekera also visited the headquarters of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Goa.
