The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has made a new arrest in its investigation into the arson attack on President Ranil Wickremesinghe's private residence in Kollupitiya.

A 46-year-old resident of the Boralasgamuwa area has been arrested in connection with the incident, marking a breakthrough in the case.

The arrested individual, identified as a teacher who conducts private tutoring classes, is suspected of involvement in the deliberate setting ablaze of President Wickremesinghe's residence.

The attack took place on July 09, 2022, shortly after the ousting of former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa from power, raising suspicions of political motivations behind the act of arson.
