A group of SLPP representatives have held a meeting with President Ranil Wickremesimghe on the upcoming presidential election. 

The discussion focused on the possibility of SLPP supporting Wickremesinghe's candidacy at the upcoming polls. 

The Presidential election is due to take place in September this year. The discussion took place at the Presidential Secretariat. 

MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena disclosed that discussions also revolved around the prospect of securing support from the SLPP leadership for a presidential candidate. President Wickremesinghe was urged to spearhead dialogue with key figures within the SLPP, including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa, in pursuit of consensus and collaboration.
