The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), chaired by former President Maithripala Sirisena, has decided to hold a separate May Day rally in Colombo.

This comes against the backdrop of heightening tensions within the ruing camp over a number of political issues.

The SLFP May Day rally will take place at Campbell Park, Borella, while the SLPP May Day rally will be held at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) ground.

The SLFP earlier considered the possibility of holding their May Day rally in Polonnaruwa but later decided to shift the event to Colombo.
