President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has summoned party leaders of the government parliamentary group for a special meting on Thursday at 6.30 PM.
The objective of the meeting is to discuss the current political situation. The meeting comes in the wake of calls from party leaders to engage the closely when deciding critical matters related to the government.
Several party leaders affiliated with the government, including wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila. held a seperate meeting with the President to discuss the same matter.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is scheduled to convene a Central Committee meeting next week to discuss the current political situation.
The relations between the SLPP and the SLFP have strained in the recent past with the SLFP MPs claiming they are not being treated with respect.
