Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywarna has ordered IGP Chandana Wickremaratne to restore the police security given to MP M.A.Sumanthiran. '

Sumanthiran's STF security was withdrawn in the wake of the "P2P Protest" organised by the Tamil National Alliance and several other Tamil groups.

Making a public statement, Minister Sarath Weerasekera said he decided to withdraw the security of the TNA MP as the latter was actively involved in the protest defying the perceived security threats.

However, the TNA MP raised the issue in Parliament and lodged a complaint with the Speaker against the withdrawal of security. Sumanthiran said Weerasekera should be personally held responsible for any threat to his life.

Having looked into the matter, the Speaker has now directed the IGP to restore the police security of the TNA Parliamentarian.
