Sri Lanka Cricket is now confronted by a fresh crisis due to the inability of the authorities to appoint a National Selections Committee following the resignation of Asantha de Mel.
De Mel, a former fast bowler, stepped down from his position as the Chairman of Selectors and Team Manager in the wake of two humiliating defeats against England and South Africa.
However, no replacement has been announced by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) so far, plunging the country's cricket administration into a fresh crisis.
It is learnt that Pramodya Wickremesinghe and Chaminda Mendis, two selectors who worked under de Mel, have been asked to select the Sri Lanka Squad for the upcoming West Indies tour. The team is set to leave for West Indies On February 20 as a "biosecure bubble".
Multiple sources familiar with the matter said fresh issues over team selections were likely to crop up if the SLC failed to announce the new committee of selectors without further delay.
