President Gotabhaya Rajpaksa is expected to minor party leaders of the ruling alliance for a spevial discussion today.
The discussion will be attended by National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya Leader Udaya Gammanpila and MP Athuraliya Rathana Thera. National List MP and businessman Tiran Alles, a confidante of the Rajapaksa family, is also expected to attend the meeting.
The discussion comes in the wake of growing tensions between the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna(SLPP) and other party leaders of the ruling alliance. In a controversial move, small party leaders within the ruling alliance held a seperate meeting recently to discuss the latest situation.
Informed political sources said today's discussion would centre on current political topics and the future course of action of the government. They also added that the discussion would be the first step of a "consistent dialogue" between the President and the small party leaders.
