A total of 39 petitions have been filed against the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
Ths is the highest number of petitions ever filed against a constitutional amendment in the country.
Among those who have filed petitions against the proposed amendment are SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, TNA Leader R. Sampanthan, MP. Mayantha Dissanayake, Dr. Paikiyasothy Saravanamuttu, former Governor Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon, Attorney-at-law Anil Karyawasam, SJB Youth wing politicians Rasika Jayakody and Lihini Fernando.
The petitions will be taken up tomorrow before a five-judge bench chaired by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
