"At the last election we asked the people to change the 19th Amendment. We were given a 2/3 majority to abolish it. The 17th and 19th Amendments were always brought by the UNP to strengthen Ranil Wickremesinghe. Ranil Wickremesinghe took action to enforce them as he could not work with Chandrika Kumaratunga. Sirisena brought the 19th Amendment to the Constitution because he could not work with the former President. 17 and 19 were brought not to strengthen the country but to strengthen Ranil Wickemesinghe. The Speaker of the time and the Leader of the Opposition were all one party. The 20th Amendment will be passed by a majority of over 175. ” He said.
