A slew of horror stories about a leading international school with branches in Nugegoda, Wattala, Panadura, Ratnapura and Gampaha and other places has surfaced on social media, with past students accusing the school’s administration of gross violations of their freedomes, privacy and safety.
The issue began when a person tweeted about how the international school in question was forcing its students to give up their social media passwords to the school. ‘What gross invasion of privacy is this?’ the user asked.
The tweet garnered huge response, with past students bringing up allegations, especially about the founding principal’s son who was appointed to a key position at the main branch of the school.
Over 100 past students, including past heads of students bodies have raised their voices on social media, drawing attention to relationships the principal’s son had had with multiple underage girls, while in a position of authority in the school, and being almost double their age.
There were also allegations of authoritarians, physical skuffles, encouraging toxic masculinity, homophobia and a whole lot of other issues that past students allege were clear hallmarks of abuse during their time at the school.
There have been continued questions as to why parents and other authorities have turned a blind eye to these issues that have been continuing unabated for many years.
This has also brought to light the fact that international schools do not fall under the pruview of the Ministry of Education, leaving them open to abuse and without accountability.
