President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has said that the 19th Amendment should be abolished and the 20th Amendmet to the Constitution should be introduced before the presentation of the budget for next year.
The President made this remarks at the ruling party parliamentary group meeting yesterday.
Rajapaksa has explained that the 20th Amendment to the Constituion will rescind the 19th Amendment and take the country back to the "pre-19A stage."
"However, this is not in any way an introduction of a new Constitution. Some people are trying to paint a wrong picture about the constitutional amendment."
"After the enactment of the 20th Amendment, we will take measures to draft a new constitution that is suitable to the country," he explained.
