State Minister Arundika Fernando today climbed a coconut tree to talk about the unprecedented increase in the price of coconut in the market.
Fernando said the demand for coconuts in the international market has seen a sudden increase resulting in an unxpected spike in the local prices.
According to the Minister, the price of a coconit stands at Rs. 100 in the local market. He said the wages of those who work in the industry should be increased.
Fernando is the State Minister in charge of the coconut cultivation in the country.
