The Court of Appeal has issued an interim order informing the Prisons Deparment to allow MP Premalal Jayasekera to attend Parliamentary sittings.
l Jayasekera, who is convicted of Murder, filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal last week, seeking permission to attend parliamentary sittings.
Jayasekera was convicted for a murder in the Kahawatte area and given death sentence just days before the last Parliamentary election.
However, Jayasekera was able to get elected to Parliament with over 100000 votes from the Ratnapura district.
The Attorney General, in his observations, made it clear that Jayaskera could not be sworn in as an MP due to the conviction.
The Speaker, however, said he was committed to uphold the rights of those who voted for Jayasekera in his district.
